About the Show
If you don’t know about Gaby Moreno, you need to know about it now. So rarely do truly special artists appear, and Gaby is rare and she is here. It’s hard to put her in a box, but she generally shines through the blues, soul and jazz. In Spanish, and English.

A native from Guatemala, Gaby Moreno moved to the United States to pursue her dream in music when she was only 19, and found a second home in Los Angeles, where she quickly became a local fan-favorite. A stellar duet with fellow countryman Ricardo Arjona propelled Gaby into the Spanish pop stratosphere and now, with the release of her new album, “Postales,” she is sure poised for another success. “Ave que Emigra,” the first single, displays the depth and beauty of her songwriting, and the strong and vulnerable quality of her voice, which make this a uniquely wonderful album.

We were fortunate to chat with Gaby and learn so much about her influences, her motivations, her sense of country. Please don’t miss this fantastic interview and Gaby’s exclusive Live-Set for Acceso Total!

And don’t forget to pick up your copy of "Postales" at www.Walmart.com or at any of our stores nationwide!

Postales: the new album
“This is my first album completely in Spanish. The last two records that I put out independently were done in English and Spanish. This is dedicated 100% to the Latin market. I’m still doing what I love, my big influences of soul, blues and jazz…”

Ave que emigra: the first single
“It means bird that migrates and it’s a song that I wrote based on my story, of how I left Guatemala when I was 19 years old and I arrived in the United States with the dream of making music and singing. It’s a song a lot of people can feel close to. You don’t have to be Latin: anybody who leaves behind everything they know, their culture, to find a better life in another place.”

Los Angeles and Guatemala
“I love LA because there is such a great music scene, especially for singer-songwriters. I feel it has formed me into the artist that I am now. Honestly, I feel I never left Guatemala; it’s still my home, you know, where my roots are, my culture, my everything.”

The Blues…
“When I was 13, my family took me to New York on a vacation trip because I love musicals so much. When one show ended, we decided to walk on Times Square. We were walking and I heard this lady who was just singing there on the street, and it was something I had never heard before. It had so much feeling. When she was done I asked what that was. She just looked at me and said: ‘That’s the blues, honey.’ That moment changed me.”

Ricardo Arjona
“I didn’t know Ricardo before he contacted me last year. I knew, of course, his music since I was little. I was really surprised, I never would have thought that he wanted to do a duet with me because our styles are very different… He said he had this song, and I listed to it and really loved it. He then asked me to join him on tour to sing the song and it was amazing!”

The album’s style
There is a song that is a poem that my grandfather wrote to my grandmother in 1942 and I decided to put music to it. So, there is a little bit of everything. All songs are very nostalgic and melancholic… I can’t help that: I am that kind of person.”

The Set List
Ave que Emigra
A gentle and heartbreaking song about the emigrant experience: hoping for something more and different, and the stubborn longing for what is left behind.

Tranvía
Echoes of Paul Simon melodies framed in Gaby’s vulnerable singing-voice turn this song into something that just makes you feel good. “Who would dear to stop what’s already on its way?” It makes you wonder.

Valle de Magnolias
This is fully into blues-high-gear. A song that speaks of restless children with no homework and others seeking freedom, a place where the confetti never stops: the valley of magnolias.

Blues de Mar
A romantic ballad channeling someone who sure doesn’t have his/her other half around anymore. Although it’s blues from the ocean, this is more like the kind of pretty lament one might get into after several drinks on dry, dry land.

No Estoy tan Mal
“The fever goes up, its overwhelming, everything spins…I’m not doing that bad.” So she cries hard in this beautiful song about the last measures one might attempt right before everything blows up.
