About the Show
Everybody knows Romeo Santos from the years he topped the charts again and again, together with his band members from Aventura, the bachata fusion group that helped propel the genre around the world with its bilingual flare. But when it came down to his new solo career, he was nervous. He confesses that he had allowed the negativity around him affect him: it was impossible to do it again. Then, a few curious things began to happen. The sales for his debut solo album, Formula, Vol.1, started to go through the roof. Then something else happened: a tentative concert date was tried at Madison Square Garden and it sold… immediately. Then a second: gone. Three jammed-packed nights in one of the most celebrated venues in the world!
Romeo found new confidence and he sure did not disappoint. He decided to put together a remarkable live-DVD-album, “The King Stays King,” which documents the extraordinary moment that took place on that now famous third night at the Garden: an incredible set that included most of Formula, Vol.1, his debut album, some classics from Aventura, and phenomenal guest appearances by Usher, Wisin & Yandel, P Diddy and the reunion—20 years in the making—of Romeo’s bachata heroes Antony Santos and Luis Vargas.
In this exclusive interview for Acceso Total, Romeo Santos shares all of this and more with us. Also, his incredible experience at the VMAs, the plans for a new world tour, what his fans mean to him, and much more! Don’t miss it!

The King Stays King:
the live DVD album “It’s pretty much what we documented on the last show (at Madison Square Garden). We had three nights sold out at The Garden. It’s 95% percent what people experienced with the album Formula, Vol.1, but this is live. We have a few guests and also, some classics from Aventura.”
Madison Square Garden:
“Honestly speaking, I was nervous. More than nervous I was concerned. I think I got influenced with the negativity. I read a lot of comments. I was paying attention to people’s opinions. A lot of people’s feedback was like, listen, this is not normal for an artist to leave a group so successful and continue being successful. I think I let it get to me. Then we put the first show on sale and it sold out immediately. Then the second one… then I was like, wow, this is a blessing. It really gave me confidence, you know… The King Stays King!”
Success as a solo artist:
“When we released Formula, Vol.1… I would have been happy selling half of what I sold. It was a new album, it was a new stage: solo artist coming from a group that was very successful… When I saw the numbers I thought they were playing tricks on me. Wow, it was a big deal.”
Awards and the VMAs:
“It’s important being nominated, to a certain degree. My biggest award it’s my fans: selling a lot of albums is the essence of this business. You know, nominations, they make you feel good because you are being recognized… Now, the VMAs, just being there, nominated, was beyond! I certainly didn’t expect to win. I was honored being in a world I thought I wasn’t a part of. Beyonce, JC… And to win, it was overwhelming, in a great way.”
Handling surprises:
“Every time I’m preparing a concert, if I’m going to have gests, I’m very discreet: low key, no one can know anything. Every night I had something special, but the third night was a little extra special. We had Usher… You can’t prepare for that…the whole place went crazy!
The tour:
“I did the first run and it was amazing. We went to places it had been years I didn’t visit: Madrid, Barcelona. I want to repeat that. We are going back there but also to some markets we didn’t hit in the first leg. I’m excited about that. I think is going to be even better now because the fans are now more in connection with the album and with the DVD coming out… It’s going to be even better.”
