About The Artist

The Set List

I’m still really early singing all these new songs. I’m not quite over it yet. I thought I was but I’m not.

That's a raw and revealing Adele discussing difficult breakups and her accomplished new record, '21.' The talented British singer performs an affecting set of tunes from her coming-of-age record, written when the now 22 year-old artist was just 21. Prepare to be heartbroken in a good way: Check out our set with Adele - and go pick up a copy of ‘21’ online and in Walmart stores nationwide.

-The Crew at Walmart Soundcheck

On Growing Older:
“I’ve grown in many ways since my first record. I’m just a bit more patient with myself and other people. I’m not as expectant as I used to be. I’m more aware of my flaws and my failures and my disappointments. I know what it is that I do wrong in relationships, which seems to be the theme of all my songs. I’m not naive anymore. A bit more worldly. Life happened!”

On The Importance Of Passion:
“My favorite singers are very passionate. It’s important for me to be a passionate performer and a passionate singer.”

On Writing:
“Whenever I try and plan to sit down to write something, nothing ever ever comes. That’s a running theme from the first album. I have absolutely no structure. Usually the idea comes to me when I’m not ready for it – late at night or having a glass of water. I’ve got to be a bit patient and wait it out.”

On Lonely California Nights:
“Recording in Malibu was pretty isolating, really. It was just me, the band, Rick [Rubin], and the engineers. We could have been in 1950 or 2090. It was just all about the song and about the music. It was all about creating a vibe and just going with our instinct. That was really quite inspirational.”

Did You Know?

• She’s already a Grammy-winning artist. Adele’s debut record took home two Grammy Awards in 2009 (Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance).

• MySpace helped make her famous! Adele earned a record contract after attention from a three-song demo posted on her MySpace.

• She recorded her new album, ’21,’ in Malibu and London. ’21,’ like her critically-acclaimed debut, ’19,’ is named after her age at the time the songs were written.

• ‘21’ is in stores now! Pick up a copy of the record online and in Walmart stores nationwide.
Rolling In The Deep
“It’s just about having a bit of self worth and suddenly coming to the revelation that you’re being treated quite badly. It’s about the last argument we had before we completely broke up. I was fuming; I could really feel my heart going. The beat is the speed that my heart was going when I was talking to [producer] Paul Epworth about it.”

Chasing Pavements
Adele tells Soundcheck that most of her music is inspired by her relationships - the good and the bad. 'Chasing Pavements,' from her debut album, '19,' is a classic Adele track about the complex side of love. Asks Adele: “Would it be a waste even if I knew my place / Should I leave it there?”

Don't You Remember
This new track (from ‘21’) showcases Adele’s talent as one of soul's most exciting new discoveries. Accompanied only by a piano, Adele pulls out a powerful ballad, a nostalgic love song about letting go. Sings Adele: “I gave you the space so you could breathe /And I kept my distance so you would be free.”

Someone Like You
“It’s about trying to move on and trying to be happy for someone, even when you’re quite reluctant to do so. I broke down yesterday when I was singing ‘Someone Like You’ at a session. I just had to stop and have a sip of tea! I’m still really early singing all these new songs. I’m not quite over it yet. I thought I was but I’m not. Sometimes I do get a bit lost in the moment and remember being in that situation. It’s pretty heartbreaking; it takes my breath away a bit.”

Turning Tables
Closing her Soundcheck set with the hauntingly beautiful ‘Turning Tables’ (from her new album, ‘21’), Adele leaves us speechless. ‘Turning Tables’ finds the English talent fiercely protective of her heart. Sings Adele: “Next time I’ll be braver / I’ll be my own savior / Stand on my own two feet.”
