San Diego sensation Allstar Weekend bring their party to Soundcheck... and you're invited! The four-piece Californian boy band has been described as a mix of "Jonas Brothers meets Blink 182," but Zach, Nathan, Michael and Cameron tell Soundcheck that they rock their own sound: an awesome mix of pop punk, indie rock, and unforgettable dance hooks. Check out our exclusive performance and interview with Allstar Weekend - and go pick up a copy of their debut album, ‘Suddenly’ online and in Walmart stores nationwide!
On Smalltown Beginnings:
Zach: “The cool thing about us is we all grew up together. We’re all from a small town in San Diego. Nathan, Cameron, and I went to high school together, and Michael went to school right down the street. It’s really cool to grow up with the same kind of influences, the same kind of atmosphere, and then become a band and see the world!”
On Musical Inspiration:
Nathan: “We’re influenced by a lot of music; we have a lot of similar tastes in music. So that helps that we’re all kinda on the same page when we start writing a song. It makes songwriting so much easier!”
Zach: “We all grew up in that scene, the Southern California pop punk scene, but we all have completely different musical backgrounds. Michael loves R&B. Cameron has learned to love R&B from Michael. Nathan loves singers and songwriters, and I listen to oldies. When we come together it's kinda cool just to see all the different blends of music.”
On Super Hooks:
Zach: “We’ve tried to make every part of every song [on 'Suddenly'] the most hooky thing ever. That really was our mission the whole time. That’s the cool thing about the whole album. A lot of it is super hooky. We did that on purpose!”
On Stardom:
Nathan: “I was always in front of the camera. [My family] was always videotaping me. I was putting on my own dance routines, I was teaching my sisters how to dance! We’d have family parties, relatives would come over, I’d just dance in front of everybody. I pretty much always wanted to perform and entertain ever since I was born."
Michael: “According to my parents I’ve always wanted to be just an entertainer in general. I knew since I was very young that I just wanted to be in the spotlight and in front of the camera!”

Journey To The End Of My Life
Allstar Weekend open their Soundcheck set with 'Journey To The End Of My Life,' a track that's already amassed more than 2.5 million MySpace spins and 50,000 YouTube video plays. Dressed in his signature skinny jeans, lead singer Zach thrills the crowd of mostly teenage girls with an unexpectedly profound song. Sings Zach: "I don't want to be surprised / I want to take a journey to the end of my life..."
A Different Side Of Me
'A Different Side Of Me' (from the band's debut album 'Suddenly') is another example of the band's introspective lyrics, many that the band actually penned. Explains Zach: “We’ve had the opportunity to write in tons of different environments and situations and really challenge ourselves and learn what kind of writers we are. I’m really proud of the music we’ve come out with in the last couple of months.”
Dance Forever
Not surprisingly, 'Dance Forever' is Allstar Weekend's favorite track. Explains Nathan: “It’s definitely our danciest song. Super melodic and it’s one of those songs that gets everybody involved. Everybody loves dancing, everybody likes to burn those calories, get a little fit on the dance floor! It’s definitely one of my favorite songs. I’m super proud of it!” Says Cameron: “The title explains everything. It’s a great song to groove to!”
Clock Runs Out
Closing their too-brief set with 'Clock Runs Out' from their debut album 'Suddenly,' Allstar Weekend leave the crowd begging for more. It's a tantalizing tease of their album, which offers up a slew of infectious tunes like this one, about a messy relationship gone sour. Sings Zach: "I think that you should grow up / Take time to clean up the mess / Before the clock runs out..."
