It’s really personal for us. Our lives got turned upside down by finally achieving the dream we had always been chasing.
Gloriana singer Tom Gossin sits down with Walmart Soundcheck to discuss the band’s past three years - a whirlwind time that’s echoed in the band’s new record, ‘A Thousand Miles Left Behind.’ Plus, the trio performs four tracks from the new record, including ‘(Kissed You) Good Night.’ Check out our exclusive set with Gloriana - and go pick up a copy of ‘A Thousand Miles Left Behind’ online and in Walmart stores nationwide!

On Opening For Taylor Swift
Tom: “We’ve had the great opportunity to open for some of our idols in country music. People like Alan Jackson, Zac Brown Band, Keith Urban, Taylor Swift, who we spent a long time on the road with. It’s really cool to be in that world with people that are doing it at such a high level because it makes you step up your game.”
On Their Personal New Record:
Tom: “It’s really personal for us. It’s really our stories from the past three years. Our lives got turned upside down by finally achieving the dream we had always been chasing.”
On Their Fast Rise:
Rachel: “The past few years have completely altered our lives in a positive way. Going from being that band that played in a chicken wing chain to performing in arenas for sold out crowds and opening up for Taylor Swift to putting out singles… I think we were really green when we first came into everything and we didn’t really know our way around at all."
On Their Growth:
Mike: "[Time] goes by so quick on the road. We’ve learned a lot and grown a lot and it shows on this new record.”

(Kissed You) Good Night
Tom: “It has a lot to do with my early dating life. It’s about trying not to have regrets in life in general, but more specifically at the end of a first date. Making that move for the first kiss! I wrote that song about the guy that I wish I was.”
Can’t Shake You
Rachel: “’Can’t Shake You’ is another song that we love performing. It’s got this beautiful melody. It’s just a very moody song that I think moves you.”
Tom: “The song is about dealing with a break-up where you are still living in the same town and running in the same circle of friends. There’s no communication but you’re suffering inside.”
Wanna Take You Home
The first single from ‘A Thousand Miles Left Behind’ is a gift to the fans. Explains Tom: “I wrote ‘Wanna Take You Home’ as a sort of tribute to all the hot women who get up and dance to our songs at shows, which is not only fun to watch but it can take a show atmosphere from a 0 to a 10 really quickly!”
Wild At Heart
The first single from Gloriana’s self-titled debut finds the band reflecting on first love. ‘Wild At Heart’ conjures up a small country town and a romance destined for memory: “Down a back road / Long, hot sumer / A couple kids runnin' loose and wild / He kissed her / She said "Mister" / "Take an inch and I'll give you a mile."
Carolina Rose
Tom: “It gives them a glimpse of what things used to be like for us – before we had a band. We used to live at Rachel’s apartment in Nashville and practice on her living room rug. We had a goal. It’s a song that shows people our roots and strips away the production, takes it all back down to one acoustic guitar, which is how we started."
