About The Artist

The Set List

"This ride right here is a funky ride. Guaranteed to get any party jumping!" Outkast rapper Big Boi drives his musical alter ego to Soundcheck: ‘Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son Of Chico Dusty.’ The soulful new disc showcases Big Boi's craftsmanship for old school beats and futuristic arrangements, and there are plenty of famous guests on board, including Janelle Monae, T.I., and Gucci Mane. Check out our exclusive live performance and interview with Big Boi - and go pick up a copy of ‘Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son Of Chico Dusty’ online and in Walmart stores nationwide!

-The Crew at Walmart Soundcheck

On His New Opus:
“The way I would describe this record is a soul funk adventure. 14 cuts, layers and layers of music, all types of instruments and sounds coupled with sharp aggressive lyricism. It’s just me at my best just having fun.”

On His Nickname:
“Sir Lucious Left Foot is a nickname of mine. It’s basically my dead serious knight-in-rhyming-armor MC name. Sir Lucious Left Foot is the more outrageous version of Big Boi. Son of Chico Dusty is actually a nod to my father. Before I started working on this record he passed away. He was a great man.”

On Reuniting With L.A. Reid:
“It’s a natural thing for me to work with L.A. Reid seeing that he’s the guy that launched the career of both me and André 3000. He believed in us and gave us our first record deal. He’s like a big brother to me, like a father figure. He definitely allows me to have the creative freedom that it takes to make the type of music that I like to make.”

On His Original Plan:
“I didn’t know I was going to be a performer. I thought I was going to go into photography or be a child psychologist. Those were my first two career choices before OutKast took off. You learn what you’re put on this earth for.”

On Connecting With Fans:
“My favorite way to connect with the fans right now has to be through my Twitter account. I just got into the whole social networking thing maybe a couple of years ago. To see the impact that you can have by just having one-on-one with fans across the globe is amazing!”

On The Critics:
“You notice what the critics say about the music, but at the same time you have to trust and believe. Only you can determine what’s supposed to be on your record.”

Daddy Fat Sax
Opening with a brand new track from ‘Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty,’ Big Boi shows us why he’s still a hip hop force of nature. ‘Daddy Fat Sacks’ is also one of his many alter egos. Explains Big Boi: “Daddy Fat Sacks is like the hardest of the hard, the most gutter of my personalities because I’m authentically from the ‘hood.'"

Follow Us
Perhaps the most accessible track on ‘Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son Of Chico Dusty’ is Big Boi's collaboration with Georgian band Vonnegutt, also signed to the rapper's Purple Ribbons record label. ‘Follow Us’ is another reflection of the new record's originality; a successful mix of indie rock and rap.

Shutterbugg
Big Boi closes his Soundcheck set with his futuristic collaboration with producer Scott Storch. Explains the rapper: “Scott came to the hotel and picked me up, and he’s like, "I got this track I’ve been sitting on with your name on it." We went to his house, and he played the music at the loudest volume I’ve ever heard a song played at – deafening!”

General Patton
Opening with a record scratch and an operatic-like chant, ‘General Patton’ defies traditional hip hop with a sound that’s as powerful as an army. Its also another moniker for the Atlanta rapper. Explains Big Boi: “They call me the General. I have the lion heart.”

Shine Blockas
‘Shine Blockas’ showcases Big Boi’s ambitious arrangements, an original sound that incorporates elements of rock, electro-funk and old school soul. Today's live Hollywood version is also a tantalizing tease of the original album version, which features a charismatic cameo appearance from Gucci Mane.
