On The New Record's Title:
“It gave me a mission statement for the album. I wanted to capture a lot of the things that I love about what it is that I grew up listening to, and what I consider to be country music."
On Inspiration:
“My life experience has shaped music the same way that anybody who writes or performs will tell you. They draw from real things. The 'American Saturday Night’ album was really personal. This album is more of what I would consider storytelling, which does come down to real life.”
On Writing:
“To write a story about something, you have to have been there. If you’re going to write a song about somebody in a heartbreak situation, hopefully you’ve had one! Drawing from firsthand experience is important as a writer, and I certainly have done a lot of that on this album.”
On Writing:
“I wrote all but three of the songs on this album. It feels a little bit like a collaborative effort. My co-writers are my best friends in the world.”
On His Duet With Carrie Underwood:
“I wanted to explore this thing about relationships and the story of a couple trying to recapture the fire of their early days as a couple. It needed a woman to be a conversation, and that’s my best friend in our industry, singer-wise, Carrie Underwood. It’s amazing to hear her show up in the song as that point of view.”
On Clint Eastwood:
“Clint Eastwood and I became friends due to a charity event, and when I was writing an instrumental for this album I wanted to write a Western. I wrote an email to the Eastwoods and I said, ‘Does Clint whistle?’ His wife wrote back and said, ‘He’s actually a pretty good whistler! What do you want?' I said, ‘I want him to add "cred" to my Western,’ and he said, ‘Yeah, I’ll do it.' He came into the studio and did it.”

Ticks
Brad Paisley opens Soundcheck with his 2007 single, ‘Ticks,’ a tune that just may boast the world’s least romantic pick-up line: “I’d like to walk you through a field of wildflowers / And I’d like to check you for ticks.”
American Saturday Night
It may be a weeknight but Brad Paisley is in the mood to party! The singer coaxes our audience with a wish: “Let’s just pretend it’s a weekend night!” ‘American Saturday Night’ is the perfect way to get the party started. Sings Brad: “She’s goin’ around the world tonight / But she ain’t leavin’ here.”
She’s Everything
“Welcome to our Soundcheck!” Brad warms up the cheering crowd before launching into ‘She’s Everything,’ the fourth single from his 2005 album, ‘Time Well Wasted.’ The romantic ballad is also Brad’s seventh Number One. Sings Brad: “She’s a fighter when she’s mad / And she’s a lover when she’s loving…”
This Is Country Music
Explains Brad: “‘This Is Country Music’ addresses certain issues that have to do with some of the things that I sing about in the song, like losing your job, and finding love and losing love, and patriotism. These areas that are comfort zones for country musicians and bands.”
Toothbrush
Just as he unveils this brand new song from 'This Is Country Music,' Brad explains the delay behind the new record: “We pushed it back because I wrote a couple more things that I liked. It’s never a bad idea to get it right!”
I’m Gonna Miss Her
Before launching into a fan favorite about fishing, Brad recounts a hilarious story about his rise to fame – inside a Tennessee Walmart. Explains the singer: "The reason that I have a record deal is because back - in 1999 - a certain record label official was in the fishing section at the Walmart in Franklin, and so was I. He said, 'You need to sign with us.' Thank you Walmart for my record deal!”
Alcohol
Brad closes his set with ‘Alcohol,’ an irreverent pick from his 2005 album, ‘Time Well Wasted.’ Written as a tribute to good times, the track was nominated for two Grammys: Best Country Song and Best Country Male Vocal. Sings Brad (who, ironically, doesn't drink): “You had some of the best times you’ll never remember with me!”
