On Stage Fright
Colbie's favorite track on Coco is 'One Fine Wire,' an autobiographical tune that deals with a very personal issue. We asked the singer-songwriter about the song and she explains: "I wrote it actually about my stage fright and the process of trying to overcome your fear. I have stage fright ... I still have it. It was worse a long time ago, but since I've been on tour for about eight months now, it's gotten better. I'm playing shows every night. I just have to take deep breaths and remember to smile and breathe between songs, because I let my brain start thinking too much and I get all worked up. I look at my band, and they smile and remind me to calm down and have fun. I'm not here to prove myself, I'm here to make people feel good."
On the School of Rock
Growing up in Malibu in a musical family, Colbie was surrounded by some pretty significant rock legends, among them Mick Fleetwood and Tom Petty. We asked the talented singer about her impressive musical education. "We lived in Malibu and my parents raised my sister and I on classic rock: Fleetwood Mac, James Taylor, Steve Miller Band, Tom Petty ... I had that influence growing up and I wanted to be a singer. My dad told me that if I wanted to be a singer, I have to learn how to play an instrument and write my own songs to actually have a good career out of it."
On Feel-Good Inspirations
Despite being surrounded by a who's who of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Colbie is mostly inspired by modern-day muses. "My biggest musical influences? John Mayer ... all three of his albums you can listen to the whole way through. He's an amazing guitar player and singer and lyricist. He inspired me to write the songs that I write. Lauryn Hill inspired me to become a singer. I heard her when I was 11 years old, and I sang 'Killing Me Softly' in my sixth-grade talent show. Bob Marley. Just because (his music) is feel-good music and it takes all your worries away."

Bubbly
"It starts in my toes and I crinkle my nose / Wherever it goes / I always know that you make me smile." So begins Colbie in her signature song, 'Bubbly.' The idyllic track, written by Colbie and fellow band member Jason Reeves, is the type of song that actually makes you want to smile. For her stripped-down Soundcheck set, Colbie delivers a rendition faithful to the acoustic-based original. We asked the talented singer about the first time she heard 'Bubbly' on the radio: "I was at lunch with my family. 'Bubbly' came on in the restaurant and my mom got up and started dancing and freaking out!"
Realize
Fittingly, Colbie delivers 'Realize,' the second single from 'Coco.' Lyrically, 'Realize' paints a more complicated picture than the youthful optimism of 'Bubbly' - the anguish of unrequited love. Written by Colbie, Jason Reeves and Mikal Blue, 'Realize' is about the dangerous territory of falling in love with a friend. Sings Colbie: "Take time to realize that I am on your side / Didn't I tell you? / But I can't spell it out for you ..."
The Little Things
Written by Colbie and Jason Reeves, 'The Little Things' is the third single from her dynamic debut. Many of the tracks on her debut were written with Jason Reeves, a longtime friend of Colbie. Explains the artist: "When I get stuck with writer's block, I call Jason and I'm like, 'All right, I need help with this song.' He'll come over and we'll complete the song together. He's like my brother. I feel like I can open up with him and he feels the same."
Battle
Watching Colbie onstage, you get a sense that her sun-kissed pop comes naturally and effortlessly. Slow dancing to the set, Colbie sings the beautiful 'Battle,' a mid-tempo track that showcases her organic energy and direct lyricism: "You thought we'd be fine ... all these years gone by / Now you're asking me to listen while you tell me about everything. No lies ... we're losing time."
Out of My Mind
For her Soundcheck closer, Colbie delivers a well-received surprise: a brand new track. 'Out of My Mind' is a laid-back affair, a slinky jazz-infused track that Colbie has debuted at recent gigs. Romantic and ripe with her trademark sound, 'Out of My Mind' is the perfect finish to a perfect set - and a tantalizing taste of Colbie to come: "I'm so in love with you / I don't know what to do / And though you're out of sight, you're never out of my mind ..."
