About The Artist

The Set List

Turn the ‘Light On’ – performer David Cook checks in for an exclusive Soundcheck. We hang out in Hollywood with the reality contestant turned rock superstar to celebrate the release of his brand new CD, ‘David Cook’. If you’ve never seen David perform live, get ready to rock 'n' roll! Check out our special session with David and go pick up his rockin' self-titled disc online and in Walmart stores nationwide.

-The Crew at Walmart Soundcheck

On Carving Out An Identity:
"The name of the new record is self-titled; I kind of toyed around with the name of the record but what really stuck out to me was that I really went into the writing process trying to define myself. In doing so, we came out with this really eclectic rock record that encompasses a lot of different sides of me as a writer and as a musician. It seemed appropriate to define the record as me.”

On Production Credits:
"I was lucky enough to have a gentleman of Rob Cavallo’s caliber producing this record. Rob made it a lot of fun. It was really hectic… I was on the tour and writing and going in to track stuff out when I had a day off and Rob made it enjoyable. I think Rob is a great musical mind and that shines on this record. He did an amazing job.”

On Turning The Light On:
“I remember hearing the song for the first time and immediately just becoming encompassed with the energy of the song. The message behind it is very universal. Everybody’s dealt with that situation where you love someone but there’s distance. What really grabbed me was the musicality of the song. It has this kind of ‘70s and ‘80s rock swagger to it. It’s one of the harder songs to sing but I love the challenge.”

On Rock Star Life:
“I’m lucky that I get to play on stage with four guys that are just good guys. It makes it really easy to gel as a group. We’re a new band for sure, but it’s just fun to find a pocket with each other. We’re all just having fun and trying to play rock star for a little bit of the time!”

Did You Know?

• He’s a Texan-born, Missouri-raised, Oklahoma resident! David Roland Cook was born December 20, 1982.

• He’s been performing since he was a child. David received his first guitar at age 12 and has been singing ever since.

• After college, he gave himself a deadline to find musical stardom. David told his family that he would give himself until his 26th birthday to find success in the music industry.

• He formed his first band, Axium in high school and experienced moderate success. After graduating college, David joined another band called “Midwest Kings,” singing and playing guitar.

• After finding superstardom on a popular reality television talent show, David reunited with his former Midwest Kings bandmate, Neal Tiemann.

• His highly-anticipated major-label album features some of the industry’s biggest players. Producers include Jason Wade (Lifehouse), Ed Roland (Collective Soul) and Rob Cavallo (My Chemical Romance).
Light On
It's time for the first single from the new record, 'Light On'. 'Light On' is a true Southern rock anthem and one that showcases David's impressive range. Lyrically, the song tells a bittersweet love story. Sings David: "You don't know how bad it feels… to leave the only one that I have ever loved."

Lie
"The truth is gonna change everything," cautions David in this beautiful power ballad, another highlight from 'David Cook'. With a stripped-down song arrangement that provides a backdrop for breakup heartache, David brings us to an emotional peak: "Don't lie to me and tell me that it's gonna be alright. Look me in the eye and lie…"

Declaration
Breaking out the catchy album opener, David delivers a pitch-perfect performance that's also a powerful statement. Explains David: "I felt like this record was a declarative statement and what better way to say it's a declarative statement than to use the word 'Declaration!'"

Bar Ba Sol
If you think David Cook's true music leans more toward classic rock, you're correct. 'Bar Ba Sol' is clearly the artist's favorite track and a strong indication of where his true musical sensibilities live. Closing the set, David stuns us with a rock hard performance and a taste – perhaps - of what lies ahead.
