Soundcheck is an original performance series created by the Wal-Mart Music team, giving you the opportunity to go behind the scenes and get an in-studio look at some of your favorite artists. Soundcheck plays right here on Walmart.com, or, for the full high definition experience, visit any Walmart store and head to the Electronics department to watch it on the Walmart TV Network.
We'll be adding new performances on a regular basis throughout the year, so please check back regularly at Walmart.com/soundcheck for more information.
We'll have artists from all genres; some old, some new, some huge, some more emerging - but all will be presented in the same intimate studio environment. So be on the lookout!

Once the performances launch, you can play it anytime you want, 24 hours a day. We'll keep all artists up on the site under "The Performances" tab.
We recommend broadband DSL or Cable to anyone who wants to truly enjoy video and audio on the Internet. However, we have made available a smaller dial-up version so you don't miss out.

On His Role As An Artist:
“I can’t edit myself. That’s not my job. My job should be to just kind of put it all out there on the table.”
On Making His New Record:
“I selected the songs that I felt were the strongest representation of me as a person and me as an artist.”
On Privacy:
“Is there a side of [me] that the public never sees? I don’t think that even exists anymore. It’s an all-access society now. It’s not because we’re necessarily volunteering to be all-access, but that accidentally everyone has become a cameraman. I think that there’s footage of you at almost every possible high and low of your professional and private life.”
On Music:
“Music is therapy for me. I don’t need insurance to get it. It’s awesome. It’s a way to release. Some people go to the gym but I don’t like to lift weights. They’re heavy! I’d rather just sing and I can do that anywhere I want. I don’t need a membership card.”
• Gavin DeGraw is a singer/songwriter from New York. He has been singing and playing piano since the age of eight.
• He became famous in 2003. Gavin’s debut album ‘Chariot’ sold over one million copies and included three hits: “I Don’t Want To Be,’ ‘Follow Through’ and ‘Chariot.’
• Get ready America - he’s rocking this season of ‘Dancing With The Stars.' Gavin will perform in the popular television competition alongside dance partner Karina Smirnoff.
• His fourth studio album is called ‘Sweeter.’ The singer collaborated with some of the industry’s hottest producers: OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder (Beyoncé, Adele), Butch Walker (Weezer, Avril Lavigne) and Ron Aniello (Barenaked ladies). Explains Gavin: “The creation of every song began with an interview to select the right producer!”

The affecting first single from ‘Sweeter’ teamed Gavin up with OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder – and scored Gavin his biggest hit since 2003’s ‘I Don’t Want To Be.’ Sings Ryan: “If you ask me how I’m doing / I’ll lie and say I’m doing just fine.”
Sweeter
The title track to Gavin’s new record is a quality collaboration with Ryan Tedder – and one that launched their professional relationship. Explains Gavin: “After Ryan and I had worked together on the title track of the record, we talked about how good we felt about the process and that we wanted to do it again.”
Run Every Time
One of the more introspective cuts from the new disc is ‘Run Every Time,’ a beautiful ballad about the fear of commitment. Raw and simple, ‘Run Every Time’ finds the singer confronting a typical relationship dilemma: “I keep stumbling ‘til I finally miss the last train / She’s ready / I’m not ready.”
Follow Through
It’s time for a fan favorite from Gavin’s 2003 album ‘Chariot.’ Seated at the the piano alone, Gavin delivers a commanding tune about actions speaking louder than words: “If you want to be with me / You have to follow through / With every word you say…”
Soldier
Explains Gavin: “’Soldier’ is how everyone wants to be able to feel about someone. I wrote that song about the most romantic possible emotion about somebody. Wanting to be the person that they can rely on when they can’t rely on anybody else.”
Candy
Gavin closes with one of the more pop-friendly offerings from ‘Sweeter,' an infectious tune simply titled 'Candy.' Over a driving beat, ‘Candy’ tells the tale of darker-sounding themes: fame and celebrity. Sings Gavin: “We just buy and wear / The plastic version of love / Hope / Understanding / We can’t survive on candy."
