On Starting Out:
Austin: “We played the small clubs and afterwards we went out and partied like everybody and signed everything they wanted us to sign. Slowly we started seeing smiles on people's faces whenever we’d be the opener. I think we put the fun back into rock ‘n’ roll. That’s what we’re here to do!”
On The Sixth Member:
Austin: “We went with the same producer for this record (producer Brian Howes) and we went with the same place, Vancouver. It’s like our second home. We did four months and whenever we weren’t working in the studio we were having a good time!
Cody: “We got to work with Brian Howes again who’s like the sixth member of the band. He’s an amazing talent so getting to work with him for the second time was unbelievable. It was a really great, easy experience.”
On The Hinder Fan:
Cody: “There’s definitely not a typical Hinder fan. We’ve got such a wide range. You’ll see twelve year-old girls and sixty year-old men at the show. It’s pretty awesome; they’re all amazing fans. They come out to the show and they all want to have a good time.”
Did You Know?
• Hinder is: Austin Winkler, Joe Garvey, Cody Hanson, Mark King and Mike Rodden
• They’re from Oklahoma. Hinder formed in 2001 as the result of drummer Cody Hanson and lead singer Austin Winkler constantly “running in to each other” at local parties.
• They love beautiful women. The band recently admitted that they send scouts into their audiences at shows. Why? To distribute VIP after show passes to gorgeous ladies.
• They’re very successful. Though critically panned, their debut album, ‘Extreme Behavior’ went triple platinum and spawned five hit singles.
• Their new album, ‘Take It To The Limit,’ produced By Brian Howes – is in stores now!
Homecoming Queen
From their debut album, ‘Extreme Behavior,’ ‘Homecoming Queen’ exemplifies the “big rock” sound that Hinder’s fans love. Kicking off with this track about a small-town girl on a downward spiral, Hinder launches into their Soundcheck set with an unforgettable force.
Use Me
It’s time for the first single from the band’s new record, ‘Take It To The Limit.’ ‘Use Me’ exemplifies the band’s hard driving sound with lyrics that cement their status as a great American glam band. Written by Brian Howes (Closure) and Hinder, the song talks of a love ruled by manipulation: “I bet she’s wondering if I’m worth her while. She’s judge and jury and she’s got me on trial…”
Without You
Another cut from their sophomore disc, ‘Without You’ is an emotional rock power ballad that picks up where ‘Lips Of An Angel’ left off. Written by Brian Howes and Hinder, the second single from ‘Take It To The Limit’ takes the band to more personal territory. Sings Austin: “We have done a lot of growing up… We were never meant to be together.”
Lips Of An Angel
Late night calls are the subject matter in Hinder’s hit ‘Lips Of An Angel.’ Written by frontman Austin Winkler and Carl Johnson, the song pays lip service to the pain of breaking free from an ex. Though the band denies the song is about old-fashioned cheating, the lyrics indicate otherwise. Sings Austin: “I never wanna say goodbye… but girl, you make it hard to be faithful…”
Up All Night
“Up all night doing things your dad won’t like!” sing Hinder in this infectious anthem to teenage rebellion. Though their new record takes some mature turns, it’s on unabashed guilt-ridden moments like this that the band shine brightest. Sings Austin: “The night’s far from over… let’s go for a ride. We’re gonna be up all night!”
