On Following Your Dreams:
“I had the feeling nine years ago that I wanted to move to Nashville. Even though I knew most people around me would tell me I was crazy I just went ahead and did it. It was the greatest decision I ever made. That kinda goes hand-in-hand with the way that I feel about this record.”
On Creating His Unique Sound:
“It’s not exactly like Nashville. I’m proud of every song. I don’t feel like I conceded to anything.”
On The Fans:
“We all appreciate the loyalty of country music fans. It only makes us more excited to keep on bringing it.”
On Going The Extra Mile:
“This is it for me. I’m either going to make a record that’s going to change my career or I’m going to make a record that doesn’t. I feel like every song I recorded on this record is gonna really help where my life goes.”
On Honoring Songwriters:
“I wrote my first two records. I just really wanted to make an effort with this record to embrace the songwriters of Nashville and start picking great songs.”

“The response from the fans has been amazing. The biggest compliment I’ve had is people who come up to me and say, ‘Dude, this song sounds like you! I believe it when I’m singing that this is who you are.’ Sometimes it takes a little bit of time to find out who you are. Take it or leave it, this is what I do and who I am.”
Alone With You
Don’t expect a bag of traditional country tunes on ‘Barefoot Blue Jean Night’; the singer’s new record explores rock ‘n’ roll just as much as Tennessee twang. On ‘Alone With You’ Jake bridges the great divide between country and rock, and scores a home run. Sings the Florida native: “I can't be alone with you..."
The One That Got Away
“This is all about that girl that got away!” Jake (who’s currently dating model Lacey Buchanan) launches into ‘The One That Got Away,’ another rock-tinged number from the new disc, ‘Barefoot Blue Jeans Night.’ Who's his mystery girl? Sings Jake: “I should have never let her go / I should have begged her to stay..."
Don’t Think I Can’t Love You
This bluesy country ballad tells a romantic tale about a rags-versus-riches kinda love. Jake Owen may be riding high on the charts now, but 'Don't Think I Can't Love You' (from 2009's 'Easy Does It') tells a humbler tale: “Girl, I can’t buy you a big diamond ring / No house on a hill full of life’s finer things...”
Jake may infuse many genres into his music but it always comes back to country. ‘Heaven,’ from ‘Barefoot Blue Jean Night,’ returns the singer to a simple guitar riff and lyrics that'll do traditional fans proud. Promises Jake: “I can take you on a trip to heaven / And have you back by tonight.”
Journey Of Your Life
Seated with just a guitar Jake closes his Walmart Soundcheck set with an acoustic highlight from ‘Barefoot Blue Jean Night.’ Humble and raw, ‘Journey Of Your Life’ finds the singer at his lyrical best: “You’ll need a hero / And a good dog / Especially a good dog / In the journey of your life…”
