On His New Record's Title:
“It’s always really difficult coming up with a title for an album. At the end of the day there’s never one song that feels like the title of that song fits the mood of that entire record. It’s always just right for that song. It’s gotta be short, it’s gotta be something that pulls people in. I was going to get away from one word album titles, but in the end I couldn’t do it!”
On Rick Rubin:
“Rick and I were introduced by our mutual friend, Guy Oseary, who is a great, amazing guy in the music business. One of Guy’s favorite things to do is to introduce people who wouldn’t normally meet each other. I met [Rick] at his house. No expectations, I was just excited to meet the guy and really excited to talk music with him. We had an amazing discussion. We started talking about songs, and I started talking to him about what kind of songs I was writing. We just decided to take that plunge."
On Twitter Love:
“I kinda fought the Twitter thing for a very very long time. I thought it was just this thing that reality TV show people did! There's something really brilliant and simple about 140 characters. I'm not a big blogger but I love to link people to things, and I love to tell my fans how I'm feeling on any given day. I love one liners. There's no pressure; I can go on there and I can just say how I feel. When you're a singer, you don't get a lot of chance to represent your personality, except for your music. Twitter gives me a chance to do that."
On The Fans:
“I don't ever take a release for granted. I always feel like I've been way too long when I release a record. I really can't thank [the fans] enough."
• Joshua Winslow Groban is a singer/songwriter from Los Angeles, California. He has performed alongside some of the world's biggest stars, including Andrea Bocelli, Sarah Brightman, the London Symphony Orchestra, and Red Hot Chili Peppers' bassist, "Flea."
• He's also a universal "heartthrob." In 2008, Josh became of People's '100 Most Beautiful People.'
• He co-writes his own music. Josh co-wrote 11 of the 13 songs on his new album, 'Illuminations.'
• 'Illuminations' was produced by legendary producer Rick Rubin. Besides marking a bolder, more mature musical direction, the album features a number of songs sung in different languages.
• 'Illuminations' is in stores now! Pick up a copy of the record online and in Walmart stores nationwide.
Josh opens his six-song set with a surprising choice: 'Alejate' from his debut album, 'Josh Groban.' The Spanish song, which translates to 'Just Walk Away,' is a ballad about saying goodbye to the one you love most. Sings Josh: "Alejate, no puedo mas / Ya no hay manera de volver el tiempo atras..."
Prepare for a showstopper: 'February Song,' from Josh's third studio album, 'Awake,' is a set highlight, a powerful ballad about an awakening. Josh, who was born in February, plays piano while singing the song's emotional lyrics: "And I never want to let you down / Forgive me if I slip away / Sometimes it's hard to find the ground."
Explains Josh: “Melody’s a really funny thing with me. You just play a chord somewhere in the piano that feels right and you just get a swell of things you want to say. It felt like a melody that had longing; it’s almost like a plea. It’s a song for people I’ve known in my life and sometimes a song for myself.”
Voce Exciste Em Mim
It's time for a new track from 'Illuminations,' and 'Voce Existe Em Mim' is a tantalizing tease to the singer's fifth studio album. This Portuguese song, written by Josh, Brazilian lyricist Lester Mendez, and arranger Carlinhos Brown, illuminates Josh's powerhouse vocals. It also marks the first time Josh has sung in Portuguese.
The third single from 'Illuminations' is another album highlight. Josh has said in interviews that 'Higher Window' captured an "aha moment" during recording when he knew exactly what kind of album he wanted to make. Accompanied by piano, guitar, and strings, Josh sings: "There is a light from a higher window / Shining down on us tonight..."
