About The Artist

The Set List

Nashville has a lot to celebrate these days. Talented newcomers like Josh Turner have invigorated the country music genre while still paying tribute to country's traditional roots. Soundcheck caught up with the charismatic crooner before the release of his much-anticipated third album, 'Everything is Fine.' Recalling country greats like Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson, Turner's tunes have an ear to the past and an eye on the future. His new album celebrates great classic country music and teams up with some of the industry's most accomplished artists, including Trisha Yearwood and celebrated R&B singer Anthony Hamilton. Ready for a great show? Watch, listen and enjoy the new face of country music: Josh Turner.

The Songwriting Process
"I do have to work at it... I've never considered myself a great songwriter," admits Josh. "I've written a lot of songs and luckily, people like some of them. But it's honestly something I have to work at. It's something that doesn't receive a whole lot of my time because of what I do; I'm out entertaining the people! Songwriting is more of a personal, intimate kind of thing. Sometimes it's easy and sometimes it's not. It's great for me because it helps me find my style as I'm evolving as an artist." Such candor about the intricacies of songwriting is rare from an artist, but Josh Turner isn't your ordinary artist. The self-proclaimed "country boy" has written hits for some of music's biggest stars, though choosing his own songs to record isn't always a priority. Explains Turner: "There are more songs on this record written by myself than the previous two records. I'm proud of them, but that's not always a prerequisite for me making a record. I always choose the best songs whether I wrote them or not."

Stage Fright + Southern Beginnings
"I don't think too much about what tomorrow's gonna hold. I just try and concentrate on today!" So says Josh about maintaining sanity in an often crazy world: "I was introduced to music for the very first time at church. My parents pushed me a lot to get in front of a crowd. I had terrible stage fright when I was young; I just hated getting in front of a crowd, but they pushed me and helped me realize that the talent I had was special and that it didn't need to fall by the wayside." Turner may enjoy performing now, but he's also a private man who relishes his personal life. "When I get home I try to stay away from the crowds. I don't go out and join the party scene. I really just stick to myself and my family and my close friends. I don't let the fans into my personal life totally, but when I'm on stage I let them in... I let them see and hear and feel my emotion."

The Closing
With his baritone bass and humble Southern charm, multi-platinum selling artist Josh Turner stands out as one of country music's most original new stars. With sure-to-be hits like the new record's infectious title track, the simmering new single 'Firecracker' and the Trisha Yearwood duet, 'Another Try,' 'Everything is Fine' looks set to be one the year's biggest albums. Moreover, it showcases a natural talent who's just getting started. 'Everything is Fine' is already climbing up the charts - pick up a copy today!

Everything is Fine
Kicking off his set with a sing-a-long foot-stomper, the optimistic title track from the new album, 'Everything is Fine,' is a meditation on just how great life can be. Singing about looking at the glass half-full, the multi-platinum artist counts his blessings without a trace of irony: "Ain't never been rich but I sleep at night. I'm feelin' good and everything is fine..."

Firecracker
The first single from the new album, 'Firecracker' is a smoldering tune inspired by the love of Turner's life - his wife Jennifer. Co-written with Shawn Camp and Pat McLaughlin, 'Firecracker' is another toe-tapping anthem that finds the artist at his most playful: "We got a good thing going and it feels so right. She's a firecracker, she's the light of my life." 'Firecracker' is already smoking up the country music charts and looks set to be one of Turner's biggest hits.

Me and God
The third single from the 2006 album 'Your Man' references the singer's beliefs and was written by the artist himself. In 'Me and God,' the devout Christian references his biggest inspiration: "You could say we're like two peas in a pod. He's my father, He's my friend, the beginning and the end." Originally recorded with country music icon Ralph Stanley and various members of Diamond Rio, Turner delivers a stripped-down version for his Soundcheck set.

Soul Mate
Another track from the new album, 'Soul Mate' is presumably about Josh's wife, Jennifer, whom he met in college. A private man, he pours his feelings out in this song: "I'll love you till I get to Heaven's gate. We've got a special bond that'll never break, 'cause darling you and I are soul mates. Yeah, I know I'll never find another soul mate."

Would You Go With Me
In contrast to the last ballad, Josh and his crew stand up and really get into this track. Written by Shawn Camp and John Scott Sherrill, 'Would You Go With Me' features Josh's distinctive baritone over some serious guitar and banjo picking. Once again, he sings about how much he loves the woman in his life: "If I gave you my hand, would you take it and make me the happiest man in the world? If I told you my heart couldn't beat one more minute without you girl."

Your Man
Turner closes the set with his first No. 1 hit, 'Your Man.' Written by Chris Stapleton, Chris DuBois and Jace Everett, the title track to his second album is inspirational, but in a whole different way. "Baby, lock the door and turn the lights down low," croons Turner in his signature baritone. "Put some music on that's soft and slow. I can't believe how much it turns me on... just to be your man."
