On Her Teenage Dream:
“I wanted it to be more danceable, but I also didn’t want to have to sacrifice the sake of a storyline or the real purpose and soul of a great song just to make it more uptempo and fun. I think that I got the best of both worlds with a song like ‘Firework,’ because you know that you’re dancing with purpose. I’m not all serious, nor am I all goofball. I’m all kinds of different shades. I wanted all of my emotional peacock to be represented!”
On Songwriting:
“I’ve been writing since I was 13. I got my first guitar when I was 13. The missing tool for me to be able to write songs! I’m really always fighting for the best lyric and the best storyline, and making sure that what I am communicating is emotional on some level.”
On Twitter:
“I’m away from home a lot of times and I really keep up with my close friends through Twitter. It’s so amazing because it’s so immediate. If I send something out right now, not only will it hit everywhere like L.A., it’ll hit across the world! I definitely use that kind of thing to my advantage, to show off my personality, to announce what I want to announce. I like to share with people. I like to remind them that I’m just like them.”
On Fame:
“You have to have talent. You have to be prepared, and you have to meet opportunity. I was carving my craft, I was always taking one foot in front of the other and moving forward. And never took no for an answer!”
On Her New Tour:
“I’m really excited for next year’s tour. I think it’s going to be very sweet and fun and cool!”

Hot And Cold
Arriving on stage in a tight pink mini, Katy Perry opens with a sizzling performance of ‘Hot N Cold,’ from her debut album, ‘One Of The Boys.’ As Katy dances on a stage filled with giant colored lollipops, the crowd joins in for a singalong: “We fight / We break up / We kiss / We make up!"
Teenage Dream
The song the audience is waiting for is also the title track to Katy’s Grammy-nominated album. Not only is ‘Teenage Dream’ one of Katy’s biggest hits, the song has sparked a wave of YouTube tributes, and a chart-topping cover on the popular television series, ‘Glee.’ Today, Katy gives the track a rock 'n' roll makeover. Sings the quintessential California gurl: “You think I’m pretty without any makeup on…”
Thinking Of You
Closing her set with a highlight from ‘One Of The Boys,' Katy tells the fans why this is one of her favorite songs to play live: “It’s now become a dedication to you all because as the lyric says: ‘When I’m with him, I’m thinking of you.'”
Firework
“If I only had one song that people could listen to off this record, I would chose this one. I think it has such a powerful message. Everybody’s given a gift, and that’s your skill, your spark. You just have to ignite the light yourself. It’s up to you to fulfil your dreams. They’re waiting to be caught. You just have to go and catch them.”
Not Like The Movies
This showstopper, the first song Katy wrote for ‘Teenage Dream,’ is unlike any other song we’ve heard from the singer/songwriter. Part torch song, part anthemic ballad, ‘Not Like The Movies’ is a wiser, darker take on relationships. Sings the newly-married artist: “If it’s not like the movies / That’s how it should be / When he’s the one / He’ll come undone…”
California Gurls
Katy explains the motivation behind her chart-topping hit: “It’s been awhile since there’s been a true anthem about California, and never has there been one from a female perspective. I just wanted to talk about the type of girls that are down to earth, mysterious, and cool and fun.”
