On Advice To Aspiring Rockers:
“Get your instrument and go stand on a corner and play. If the cops move you on, go find another place. Just play. You gotta play. It’s about racking up those ten thousand hours to get the gist of what it is that you do. If there are no clubs or pubs to play, then just go play on the street corner.”

On Creative Collaboration:
“I love collaborating because I like collaborating with someone else; I like the creative process flowing. There’s something fluid about somebody else keeping everything moving. Either it’s the other person or me. I just like that process a lot.”

On Writing:
“I don’t really overwrite a lot for records. I probably wrote maybe 20 odd songs [for 'Get Closer'] but some of them still need some more work. There are maybe two songs that we left off because I felt like we needed more time. Hopefully they’ll see the light of day on the next record!”

On Mystery And Creation:
“There’s a lot of mystery about creating. It’s really elusive and unpredictable. It’s mysterious, and I think it’s meant to be. People say they want to know every single bit about something, but I actually don’t think that’s good. I think there’s got to be some imagination involved.”

Did You Know?

• He’s a New Zealand-born, Australia-raised artist who now lives in Nashville. The singer/songwriter moved to Tennessee in 1992.

• He’s an award-winning country singer with six U.S. albums under his belt. Keith has won numerous accolades for his work, including Grammy Awards, CMT Music Awards, Country Music Association Awards, and American Music Awards.

• His sixth studio album is named ‘Get Closer.’ Explains Keith: “I looked for songs that represented all different facets of relationships, but the end result is always stay together, get closer, don’t run."

• He is married to Nicole Kidman and is the proud dad of Sunday Rose Kidman Urban, 2. Explains Keith: “I loved making this record. I felt a tremendous sense of balance in my life, as a husband and a father and a musician who gets to go and try to capture all that and harness it and create something.”

Put You In A Song
Keith collaborated with longtime collaborator Dann Huff on ‘Get Closer,’ and the first single is a prime example of the pair’s knack for creating melodic, rock-inspired country. Sings Keith: “It's still not enough for how I feel about you / I wanna put you in a melody / I gotta set you to a groove."

You Gonna Fly
“This is a new song off the record for you that we’ve never played before. I hope that’s not apparent!” That's Keith announcing this steller cut from his new album, ‘Get Closer.’ It may be the first time he's sung 'You Gonna Fly' live, but Keith soars: “You could be a black bird on the country street / Hiding from the world from a broken wing / But you better believe you gonna fly with me."

Without You
Keith and his band played a number of odd venues to promote 'Get Closer.' He tells us: "I wanted to strip it back to just the acoustic and the guitar and maybe a cheesy drum machine. We played at Penn Station. We played at 30th Street Station in Philly. We played on the Amtrak train that took us to the stations. And we just played this shopping mall up in Edmonton. I felt like Debbie Gibson all of a sudden!”

‘Til Summer Comes Around
‘’Til Summer Comes Around’ is the fourth single to be released Keith's 2009 award-winning, platinum-selling record, 'Defying Gravity.' Today, he gives us a powerful renditon of the track, a blistering, haunting ballad about a summer romance turned cold. Sings Keith: “The words came out / I kissed your mouth / No Fourth of July has ever burned so brightly."

Shut Out The Lights
The recording process for 'Get Closer' almost didn't happen. Explains Keith: “When we started recording this record, most of Nashville was under water, including the place where all my guitars were stored. We could either put the record off a couple of weeks or we could just borrow guitars and get going with it. I borrowed a guitar from my guitar tech, and we just hit record and started the record!”

I Told You So
Like every great country artist, Keith Urban writes songs that weave a tale. 'I Told You So,' from his 2006 record, ‘Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing,' is a bittersweet tale of love, loss, and no apologies. Promises Keith: "Please, just come back home / No, don't say that you're sorry / And I won't say I told you so."

Days Go By
Keith closes his powerful Soundcheck set with a song from his fourth album, ‘Be Here.' It's a fitting finale for the singer's current state of mind; 'Days Go By' mirrors the wisdom and maturity at play in 'Get Closer.' Sings Keith: "It's all we've been given / So you better start livin' right now / 'Cause days go by."
