“We get to play music for a living! I pinch myself everyday that we actually get to do this and get paid for it. It’s a huge gift and we’re very grateful…” That’s Lifehouse main man Jason Wade discussing his humility and gratitude for the rock 'n' roll life. The band’s brand new album ‘Smoke & Mirrors’ combines their engimatic live shows and their penchant for writing radio-friendly pop. Plus, they’re getting ready to hit the road with fellow Soundcheck performer Daughtry! Check out the exclusive performance and interview with Lifehouse - and go pick up a copy of ‘Smoke & Mirrors’ online and in Walmart stores nationwide.

On Smoke & Mirrors:
Bryce: “It took a year and a half to make this record, and we’re really happy with it. ‘Smoke & Mirrors’ was the first track that we recorded for the record. What we wanted to do in the beginning was to kind of capture the essence of what we’ve been doing live over the course of the last three years. We realized we were missing the big piece that keeps Lifehouse alive, which is the radio. We started getting back to the record-making process and creating these radio-friendly pop songs. Those songs infused with the live rock songs ambiguously ties into the title: ‘Smoke & Mirrors.’”
On Pushing The Limits:
Bryce: “We wanted to raise the bar on this record and make sure that we made the best record we possibly could. We’re proud of this record!"
Jason: “There are more electronics going on on this album. I feel like we’ve pushed the sonic space a little bit. That keeps it interesting and fresh for us!”
On Daughtry:
Ben: “We’re going out with Daughtry for a few months. We’re special guesting on [his] tour. We’re really proud of our new record, and we’re going to play a lot of those new songs.”
On Summer Camp:
Bryce: “[Touring] is kind of like summer camp - all year long. Pack a bunch of dudes on a tour bus. You’ve got your candy drawers and your chips. It’s fun!”
Jason: "We're four guys that actually like to hang out with each other!"
On Connecting With The Fans:
Bryce: “Our fans have been really involved on Twitter and MySpace and Facebook. We asked them what they thought would be a great next single, and they all put in their two cents. It’s just good to have that interaction; it’s healthy!”
Jason: “We have amazing fans. There’s a core group of them that have been following us for the last ten years. We’re very fortunate in that sense to have fans that have grown with us as the band has grown.”

Halfway Gone
Lead singer Jason Wade explains the story behind the new record's first single: “It was a really inspiring day and ‘Halfway Gone’ was written in two and a half to three hours. We really felt like we accomplished what we had set out to accomplish.”
Hanging By A Moment
The band launch into a revitalized rendition of their debut single 'Hanging By A Moment,' perhaps their best-known hit. It’s hard to believe that ‘Hanging By A Moment’ had its “moment” almost 10 years ago, when it became the single most played radio song of 2001. Sings Jason: "I'm hanging by a moment here with you / I'm living for the only thing I know..."
You And Me
Continuing their set of number ones, Lifehouse perform ‘You And Me,’ from their debut album, 'No Name Face.' Drummer Rick Woolstenhulme once called ‘You And Me’ the “wedding song of the year,” and it’s easy to see why. Sings Jason: “Everything she does is beautiful / Everything she does is right…”
It Is What It Is
From their new album ‘Smoke & Mirrors,’ ‘It Is What It Is’ is a poignant writing collaboration between Jason Wade and manager Jude Cole. A brutally honest rock ballad about a doomed relationship, ‘It Is What It Is’ also features a stunning guitar solo from Ben Carey. Sings Jason: “Somewhere in the city is a road I know / Where we can make it / But maybe there’s no making it now…”
Whatever It Takes
Written for the band’s fourth studio album ‘Who We Are,’ ‘Whatever It Takes’ is an introspective apology to an ex-flame. Sings Jason: “I’ll do whatever it takes to turn this around / I know what’s at stake / I know that I’ve let you down.”
Everything
Lifehouse finish their set with a song from their debut album ‘No Name Face.’ Written as a reflection of the band’s faith, ‘Everything’ was also re-recorded as a bonus track on ‘Smoke & Mirrors.’ Asks Jason: “How can I stand here with you and not be moved by you? / Would you tell me how could it be any better than this?”*
