About The Artist

The Set List

"From the very first time we got together and hit that first chord, it felt right." That's Jimi Westbrook describing his much-beloved country band, Little Big Town. Formed in 1998, the talented Southerners deliver four-part harmony and folk-tinged country tunes directly from the heart. We recently caught up with Little Big Town during an exclusive Soundcheck session and discovered one of country's most personable bands. Longtime friends, the quartet's members haven't let success go to their heads; they're still the same small town singer/songwriters who came to Nashville to follow their dreams. Performing fan favorites and tracks from their upcoming third album, 'A Place to Land,' check out a very special set with Little Big Town.

They're With the Fans
Little Big Town know the importance of country fans. They're even musically inspired by them. Explains Karen: "We really just write to please ourselves creatively. We all look at each other and say, That's a cool idea - we should write that! But often we have the fans in mind. That's where so many songs from 'A Place to Land' came from - watching them. 'I'm with the band,' the lead single from the record, was inspired by the fans." Produced by Wayne Kirkpatrick, the new record contains twelve tracks, ten of them co-written by Little Big Town. Is the songwriting a collaborative process? Phillip says: "It's a really interesting process. Everybody throws their ideas in the hat and at the end of the day, the best idea or best lyric wins, so to speak. We're all on the same page... and we use that group mentality to write, and it's a really fun process." Adds Kimberly: "You don't have to worry about sounding foolish with coming out with a line that might not work. We're very comfortable with each other and encourage each other."

Baby, It's A Fine Line
Little Big Town has been performing as a band for almost ten years, but you get the sense that the band remains just as excited as when they were starting out. Explains Jimi: "We're up there because we genuinely want to have a good time." Adds Phillip: "We don't like forced fun. I think we still get excited about the newness and the discovery of someone hearing a song for the first time - or writing a song. I think that creative process fuels us in a big way." The band may be enjoying their recent success, but they've also got big plans for the future. Says Karen: "The possibilities of the future... just to reach the goals we've been able to reach in the past year and a half. Now we've got bigger goals..."

The Closing
Little Big Town's third album, 'A Place To Land' is a significant step in the talented country act's career. As the members' lives and relationships have evolved, so too has their music - they've said that more soul searching went into the new album than any of their previous efforts. Delivering more of their signature silky harmonies and Southern charm, the band from the boondocks has made an old fashioned country record with a beginning, middle and end. Go pick up a copy of 'A Place To Land' today!

-The Crew at Wal-Mart Soundcheck

Did You Know?

- Little Big Town consists of four members. They are Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Roads, Jimi Westbrook and Phillip Sweet. Each member shares vocal duties equally.

- They started out as a female duo. Kimberly and Karen first began singing together at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. The pair moved to Nashville and met up with an old friend (Jimi). Phillip was the last member to join the band.

- They've been together since 1998 when they made their first appearance at the prestigious Grand Ole Opry.

- Success arrived after some bumpy beginnings. After failing to wow critics and audiences with their debut album, the band separated briefly and resumed careers as telemarketers.

- They're not just a band - they're family. Jimi and Karen married on May 31, 2006 but kept their nuptials a secret until two months later. Kimberly recently gave birth to a baby girl, Daisy Pearl Schlapman on July 27, 2007. Philip is married and expecting a child later this year.

- They're a hit with the critics. Most recently, the group won the 2007 Academy of Country Music Award for "Top New Duo or Vocal Group."
It's a Fine Line
Little Big Town has listed the Eagles, Alabama and Fleetwood Mac as major musical inspirations, and it's never easier to hear those influences than in 'It's a Fine Line' - a stellar track from the band's upcoming album, 'A Place to Land.' An up-tempo song that showcases the group's knack for catchy melodies, 'It's a Fine Line' features Karen Fairchild's powerful lead vocal.

I'm With the Band
"I was born with a suitcase in my hand, livin' in a life that few can understand..." 'I'm With the Band,' the first single from the new album, is already a Little Big Town classic. Few fans know that the four friends write or co-write most of their songs, and 'I'm With the Band' is a Little Big Town highlight. Singing about the passion and perils behind touring, the band delivers an earnest and affecting affirmation.

Boondocks
One of Little Big Town's biggest attractions is the band's accessibility and down-home appeal. A fan favorite, 'Boondocks' was the first single to be released from the band's second album, 'The Road to Here' - and became their first top ten hit. Crooning about the pleasures of country livin', 'Boondocks' is also a self-proclaimed Southern anthem: "I feel no shame, I'm proud of where I came from, I was born and raised in the boondocks."

That's Where I'll Be
It's time for a teaser from the new album, 'A Place to Land.' A quintessential cowboy tune about searching the South, 'That's Where I'll Be' is an anthem for America. Combining their seamless harmonies and vivid lyrics, Little Big Town paint a perfect love song: "I'll go down the Mississippi to the land of hurricanes, or I'd climb the hills of Tennessee. That's where you are. That's where I'll be."

Bring It On Home
For the band's last song, the appropriately titled, 'Bring it On Home' does exactly that. One of the most played country tunes of 2006, it's also Little Big Town's biggest hit to date. The second single from their second album, 'The Road to Here,' is an emotional track about lending a shoulder to a world-weary heart: "When your long day is over and you can't barely drag your feet. The weight of the world is on your shoulders. I know what you need... Bring it on home to me."
