On Rediscovering Inspiration:
“The inspiration is the same as it’s always been for me, which is just to find the best songs I can find and make an album that has a lot of emotion. ‘Shine’ is a word that’s very prominent in two of the songs, ‘Ride’ and a song called ‘I Just Call You Mine.’ I love the word; I think it’s powerful, I think it’s strong and positive. With this new record I feel like I found a whole new creativity, a whole new inspiration. I have it back. I felt so inspired when I was making this record.”
On Keeping It Fresh:
“I worked with Dan Huff on this record. The first time I’ve worked with him as a producer. I’ve known him forever, and he’s played guitar on all my records, but this was the first time working with him as a producer. I think that, that was part of me being so inspired. We all get in our little comfort zone working with the same people. To get out of that comfort zone a little bit and work with someone brand new and in an entirely different zone is exciting. It was exciting again to make music!”
On Self Esteem:
“It helps when you know yourself and you have a strong sense of who you are. Everybody has an opinion and everybody tries to tell you what they think you should do, what you should wear, what you should be like. You just really have to stick to your guns and follow your instincts. You know what’s right for you. At the end of the day, that’s what comes through to the fans. When you are being honest and real and not trying to be something that someone is trying to create for you.”

Wrong Baby Wrong
The lead-off track from ‘Shine’ is a bluesy affair that showcases Martina’s love for rock and some formidable air guitar skills. It's a tune reminiscent of early Pat Benatar, one of Martina's heroes. If love is a battlefield, Martina has some advice for brokenhearted soldiers: “It won’t be long 'til you find somebody new. Everyone falls down now and then. But if you think you’ll never move on… you’re wrong baby, wrong.”
Walk Away
Clearly the fan favorite of her set, ‘Walk Away’ is a blistering new ballad about the difficulties in saying goodbye. Anyone who's ever been in a challenging relationship will appreciate this bittersweet kiss-off - a poetic request for emotional release. Sings Martina: “I can read your mind right now. You want me to stick around. Let me go. Let me walk away…”
Ride
The first single from Martina’s latest album, ‘Shine’ is a rollercoaster ride that dips through pop, rock and classic country influences. Written by Nashville scribes Michael Davey, Andrew Dorff and Chris Robbins, ‘Ride’ is about the ups and downs of life. Sings the ever-optimistic Martina: “Laugh... even when you want to cry. Faith is believing you can close your eyes and touch the sky!”
Sunny Side Up
“Sometimes you have to just wake up in the morning and choose to be happy!” So proclaims Martina before launching into this feel-good cut from the new disc, ‘Shine.’ ‘Sunny Side Up’ is Martina's prescription to a forecast of difficult times: “Look at all we have. Maybe it ain’t so bad. You’re looking at a girl who’s looking at the world sunny side up!”
I Just Call You Mine
“This is one of the most beautiful love songs that I’ve heard in a long time. And I always like to include at least one sappy love song!” Martina introduces her last song of the set, and it's clearly dedicated to her husband of 21 years, sound engineer John McBride. Sings Martina: “You’re a standing ovation after years of waiting for a chance to finally shine. Everyone calls you amazing. I just call you mine.”
