On Making Magic:
“A lot of people talk about the magic in the music, but no one really elaborates on what that music is. This is me saying that when it comes to my music, I know that I am the magic in my music. I’m not taking any shine or credit away from anyone. This is me owning my contribution to my music.”
On Soulful Inspiration:
“I remember listening to a lot of old-school soul records, classic soul records that helped me to identify whatever it was I was experiencing in life. I used to listen to a lot of Marvin Gaye, a lot of Stevie Wonder, a lot of Donny Hathaway. Those are the three main artists that I go to immediately and I pattern myself on in a lot of ways.”
On Reaching Beyond R&B:
“Not everybody listens to R&B music. That doesn’t make me sad and I don’t feel bad about that; I just recognize it and accept it as a reality. What else is out there that people listen to? Can I contribute to that genre of music? I would rather entertain you in the way that you like to be entertained than try to convince you and browbeat you to like what I do."
On Living His Dream:
“I wouldn’t rather do anything else than what I’m doing right now.”
On Music As Medicine:
"I want you to be able to turn on my music and allow me to be something that helps to ease whatever the stress or pain that may be going on in your life. It’ll help you get to be in a better place.”
