About The Artist

The Set List

Pocketful of Sunshine

Soundcheck is here at historic Capitol Studios in Hollywood, California for a first look at Natasha Bedingfield's sizzling hot new album, 'Pocketful of Sunshine.' Natasha took the U.S. by storm with her platinum single, 'Unwritten,' that can be heard as the theme song for hit MTV reality show 'The Hills,' as well as in several commercials. Originally released on her debut album, the song expresses what it means to be a young, independent woman with your life ahead of you. We spoke with Natasha about the inspiration behind the new album, and she explains: "It's all about relationships, the highs and lows and the fact that we all have a need to connect."

Far From Home
Born and raised in London but originally heralding from New Zealand, the Britpop star was drawn to music from an early age. "I've been doing music all my life. My family is all very musical. London has also got a great, arty kind of music scene," says Natasha. Her debut single, 'Unwritten,' and album of the same name, both skyrocketed to number one in Europe and the UK, but Natasha knew the odds were stacked against her to break into the American market. "In the music world, America is the prize, the great coconut you win at the fair, but they really don't care if you've been successful anywhere else, they want to know who you are and see what you can do for themselves," she explains. "I had to be willing to start over and prove myself from the ground up again."

On Recording
"The songwriting process for me involves writing with people. I love collaborating. I write with other artists and sometimes just really amazing musicians." Recording most of her new tracks in Los Angeles, she worked with a stand-out team of incredible producers, writers and musicians, including Mike Elizondo (Eminem, 50 Cent and Fiona Apple), Adam Levine of Maroon 5 and Greg Kirsten (Beck, Lily Allen).

The Closing
With Natasha's life experiences inspiring her new songs, we see a developing and evolving artist emerging before us. Says Natasha: "I try to keep myself inspired with life, and writing is my way of expressing that. So if I can still be a songwriter who gets to sing my own material, I could be very, very happy." If her performance today is any indication of things to come, then it looks like she's going to be a very happy woman. Check out Natasha's exclusive set and pick up a copy of her new album, 'Pocketful of Sunshine' - in stores and online today!

Love Like This
Natasha kicks off the set with a song that's more soulful than her first pop-charged album. The track, which features Sean Kingston on the studio album, is a playful take on Natasha's shifting priorities. She explains: "I want to make music that matches who I am. My first album was about independence and seizing the moment. I'm still very independent and I find it hard to let go of that freedom, but I'm in a different place now. I've been dating, searching for a partner, looking for Mr. Right. This album reflects those feelings and that journey."

Pocketful of Sunshine
A mischievous grin crosses Natasha's face and her personality begins to shine through as she performs the title track from her new album. The lyrics contain a sense of childhood, interwoven with a wisdom that only comes from experience: "Do what you want, but you're never gonna break me. Sticks and stones are never gonna shake me."

More Than Ever
Natasha takes the set down a notch with a slow ballad, only to cleverly weave it into an uplifting, feel-good tune. She sings of love lost that never died, and that time only further convinced her of her feelings and undying devotion: "That original feeling never went away, that's why I'm standing here today. So many ups and downs but nothing's changed, that's why I know I'm here to stay."

Soulmate
This tearful ballad was written during a brainstorm jam session in a friend's bedroom. The raw vocal tracks they laid down that night ended up on the album. The relatable song about searching for that special someone sorrowfully hits home: "Somebody tell me why I'm on my own if there's a soulmate for everyone."

These Words
The most uplifting song of her set harkens back to the joy of her pop hit, 'Unwritten.' 'These Words' tells the story of someone yearning to tell that special someone their feelings and the exhilaration of taking that plunge and baring all: "These words are my own, from my heart flow. I love you, I love you, I love you. There's no other better way to say, I love you."

Unwritten
Natasha closes with her woman-of-independence smash hit that sends the message, 'you are what you make of the world.' As you tap your toes along with this song that's reached almost 2 million downloads, you're transported to a world a little more carefree, and are left with the words: "Today is where your book begins, the rest is still unwritten." That seems to apply to Natasha's own life these days - we can't wait to read the next chapter.
