About The Artist

The Set List

"I used to hide behind the piano. I feel good now; I have a cool job!" That's Norah Jones sporting a shorter hair style, a new record, and a brand new attitude. The award-winning singer/songwriter took two years "off" from her hectic schedule, and the result is her life-affirming new disc, 'The Fall.' Check out our interview and performance with Norah - and go pick up a copy of 'The Fall' online and in Walmart stores nationwide.

-The Crew at Walmart Soundcheck

On Taking Time Off:
"I've had some time off. I hadn't had a lot of time off in the last seven years, so it was nice to be home for awhile. I did a couple of collaborations. I sang with Q-Tip for his last album. I took a pottery class, I got a dog! I'd never had time to do something like that before."

On Telling Stories:
"I'm really proud of this album as a whole. There's a lot of interesting things in it. It has a couple of different storylines that connect. There's a lot of variety within the songs but it really sounds like its own thing."

On Giving Advice:
"Advice is tough to give to people. You really have to know them to give advice. Good advice is to not compromise what you believe in...but who knows the situation? Maybe it's good to compromise sometimes. It's a little hard!"

On Finding Confidence:
"This is my fourth album. I've been trying different things. Nobody wants to make the same album over and over again. You just get more comfortable. I used to hide behind the piano a little bit...but I feel good now. It's fun; I have a cool job!"

Did You Know?

• She's an Aries. Norah Jones was born March 30, 1979. She is the daughter of sitarist Ravi Shankar.

• She’s a Texan. Norah was born in New York City but grew up and went to school in the Lone Star State.

• She moved to New York City at age 20 to pursue her dream of becoming a jazz singer.

• She’s since sold 36 million albums. Her debut record ‘Come Away With Me’ was a huge success and certified diamond. Norah’s last three records have been certified multi-platinum.

• Her fourth studio record, ‘The Fall’ features some impressive collaborations, including Ryan Adams, Okkervil River’s Will Sheff, and her longtime collaborator Jesse Harris. Pick up a copy online and in Walmart stores nationwide!
Young Blood
The first song on Norah’s set list is a powerful new track from ‘The Fall.’ Co-written with Mike Martin, ‘Young Blood’ is an anecdotal tale that rises from a whisper to a cry. It’s also our first tease that ‘The Fall’ is more experimental (and more rock ‘n’ roll) than Norah’s previous records.

Chasing Pirates
The first single from ‘The Fall’ is an adventurous foray into the world of pop. Explains the singer: “It’s one of the first songs that we recorded for this album that sort of had a different direction. It was always just more of a pop song! I don’t really make singles-driven type of music; I just lucked out a couple of times. We went with it. It was kind of fun, actually!”

Light As A Feather
‘Light As A Feather’ is another new track from ‘The Fall,’ co-written with musician Ryan Adams. To lose the "country" sound from the production, Norah removed the guitar and replaced it with an organ. The result is an album highlight and a sure-to-be single.

Come Away With Me
The title track from Norah’s breakthrough debut sounds just as romantic as it did in 2002. Norah delivers a slow-burning retread that showcases her atmospheric songwriting. Sings Norah: “I want to wake up with the rain falling on a tin roof. In fields where the yellow grass grows knee-high.”

Sinkin' Soon
The second single from Norah’s third solo album, ‘Not Too Late’ is a slinky number co-penned with Lee Alexander. The jazzy tale of a relationship unraveling, ‘Sinkin’ Soon’ is also memorable for its Southern-style lyrics. Sings Norah: “We’re a wheel of cheese high in the sky… but we’re gonna be sinkin’ soon.”

Even Though
Explains Norah: "'Even Though’ is a song I wrote with my old friend, Jesse Harris. He’s been a good friend for about ten years. He actually played a lot and wrote a lot of the songs for my first record. He wrote ‘Don’t Know Why.’ It sounds really different on the record from the demo I made. [This] helped me realize it’s all about the arrangement, the sound, the musicians…”
