On Waking Up:
Zach: " 'Dreaming Out Loud' was us in LA wanting to get somewhere and feeling like we were nowhere. ‘Waking Up’ is us waking up to the reality that this is what we dreamed about, this is what we wanted, and now we’re in the middle of it... and there’s a whole set of realities that go along with that. Some we knew about; some we didn’t know about.”
On Keeping Albums Alive:
Drew: “We were very adamant from the beginning that we wanted to make a shorter record. It’s a very strange atmosphere now in music. It’s up to the artist to make albums important again. To make a collective body of work from beginning to end, something that the listener will want to hear. It’s not like it was when we were kids. That was our initial motivation. We wanted it to be shorter and more album-oriented with a certain flow and feel to it. I think we actually are happy with how it turned out!”
On The Magic Of Denver:
Drew: “We all moved to Denver for about six months. We were actually in a really creative stage. Our label kind of realized that, and they’re like, “You guys need to get back into the studio and write an album!” We rented a house, threw all of our gear inside and got the creative process going.”

Waking Up
“We’re waking up. We’ll take these roads, we’ll break them up…” So sings Ryan Tedder in the title track of OneRepublic's new album, ‘Waking Up.’ The song is an emotional, autobiographical journey, and Ryan opens our Soundcheck set with a powerful vocal performance.
Stop And Stare*
The second single from the band’s debut album, ‘Dreaming Out Loud’ is an introspective ballad about change, and it's given a stirring rendition on stage. Sings Ryan: “I think I’m moving but I go nowhere. I know that everyone gets scared… but I’ve become what I can’t be.”

Everybody Loves Me
Ryan: “We were touring in South Africa. We were in the studio in Johannesburg, and I started banging on the drum. Brent picked up this crappy looking acoustic guitar and started playing this riff. We both looked at each other and said, “Let’s record this now!” This is what became of it.”
Secrets
‘Secrets’ is an affecting new tune that holds a special meaning for the band. Explains Brent: “We love [this] song. It’s totally different for us. The drums are kind of hip hop, organic bass drums… and minimal production that somehow ended up sounding massive. Zach actually had to learn [how to play] viola for that!”
Good Life
It’s time for another new track from ‘Waking Up,’ and Ryan explains the meaning behind the song: “I have a theory that you can decide to make whatever day it is a good day.” ‘Good Life’ isn’t just a positive meditation on self-inflicted destiny, it’s an infectious piece of perfect autobiographical pop. Sings Ryan: “When you’re happy like a fool, let it take over. When everything is out, you gotta take it in…”
All The Right Moves
Ryan: “This is the first song we did for this album. We were on tour in Germany; we actually recorded most of this song in Munich and Hamburg. This song is about keeping up with the Joneses, which is a complete waste of time. The grass is not greener!”
Apologize
Before thanking Walmart and their Vegas fans, OneRepublic close with their signature song, the record-breaking, worldwide hit ‘Apologize.’ Written by Ryan Tedder, ‘Apologize’ is a moving testament to moving on. Sings Ryan: “I’m holding on your rope, got me ten feet off the ground. It’s too late to apologize.”
