About The Artist

The Set List

Did I have challenges when I first got in the rap game? Absolutely. White. Blue eyes. Cuban. From Miami. It was like four strikes!

That's Pitbull talking to Walmart Soundcheck about the obstacles he overcame on the way to hip hop superstardom. The rapper's ambitious new album, ‘Planet Pit,’ takes fans to the dance floor - and includes exciting collaborations with T-Pain, Marc Anthony, Ne-Yo, and Enrique Iglesias. Our word to the critics? Watch the Cuban American rapper in this powerful set (live from MyStudio in Los Angeles) - and go pick up a copy of ‘Planet Pit’ online and in Walmart stores nationwide!

-The Crew at Walmart Soundcheck

On Planet Pit:
"The album embodies the whole planet. We’ve created our own planet of music. We feel that music is the universal language. Music brings everybody together. That’s the reason why we named the album, ‘Planet Pit,’ and also the reason that we’re making music we call "global music."”

On Music For The Masses:
"I made this for the fans, but I made this for those who become fans. You’re always trying to pick up people that don’t know much about [your] music. That’s when you’re making music for the masses.”

On Challenges:
“Did I have challenges when I first got in the rap game? Absolutely. White. Blue eyes. Cuban. From Miami. It was like four strikes! Nobody was trying to listen to anybody from Miami. It was a lot of hard work but I wouldn’t have had it any other way because we paid dues. We earned stripes. We earned our keep.”

On Influences:
“Celia Cruz. Jay-Z. Nas. Trick Daddy. I’ve been influenced by a lot of artists that have given me the chance to be able to give music a different edge.”

On His Musical Mission:
“I’m only here to empower.”

Shut It Down
Pitbull dives headfirst into his Walmart Soundcheck set with the fourth single from his 2009 album, ‘Rebelution.’ The Cuban American rapper has listed his Miami hometown as an inspiration for his music, and ‘Shut It Down’ is a powerful mix of salsa, merengue, and killer street beats. Promises Pitbull: “I could care less / If you love me or hate me.”

Hey Baby (Drop It To The Floor)
Believe the rumors: the lead single from Pitbull’s sixth studio album, ‘Planet Pit’ is a sharp detour to the dance floor. Pulsating with beats equally inspired by European clubs and the discos of South Beach, ‘Hey Baby’ finds Pitbull in thrilling new territory. (There’s even a shout out 80s rappers Salt-N-Pepa!)

Give Me Everything
Though Ne-Yo’s a no-show at today’s Walmart Soundcheck, Pitbull's performance of 'Give Me Everything' would make the R&B producer proud. Circumstances sure have changed since Pitbull's 2004 debut; 'Give Me Everything' paints a picture of Pitbull at his most powerful: “I’m a Dade county self-paid, self-made millionaire / I used to play around the world / Now I’m around the world getting paid.”

Bon Bon
It's time for a track from the rappers's first Spanish studio album, ‘Armando.’ Pitbull's Spanish album was an unexpected career move, one that pleased the fans and surprised even his toughest critics. The rapper’s fifth studio album was reportedly named after his father, and featured this Top 5 Latin Billboard single, ‘Bon Bon.’

Hotel Room Service
Pitbull checks in to another popular hit from his 2009 hit album, ‘Rebelution.’ ‘Hotel Room Service’ not only namechecks a popular hotel chain, it samples two well-known tunes: ‘Push The Feeling On’ by Nightcrawlers and ‘Rapper’s Delight’ by The Sugarhill Gang.
