RBD ... WHO ARE THEY?
If you haven't heard of RBD yet, you're about to. Hailing from Mexico City, RBD began their individual careers on a Mexican telenovella. Today, they've catapulted to international singing sensations. The band has sold over seven million albums worldwide and is comprised of three girls and three guys. They are: Alfonso Herrera, Christian Chavez, Dulce Maria Savinon, Maite Perroni, Anahi Portilla and Christopher Uckermann. Check 'em out.
THE ARRIVAL
RBD-ehydrated
The Soundcheck crew took a road trip to San Fernando Valley's Center Staging, a soundstage located in Burbank, California. We think the L.A. traffic is exhausting, but upon our arrival we discover that the band have just climbed off a 10-hour flight from Brazil. They're jetlagged and exhausted after a string of back-to-back sold-out South American shows. Can this singing sensation pull off one more live show? Read on.
The Show Must Go On
These kids are seasoned professionals. Entering the studio, they embrace us with hospitality and genuine affection. They may have been awake for over 24 hours, but that's not going to stop them from performing a powerful set. Let the show begin!
THE SET
Nuestro Amor
RBD kick off their energy-fueled set with one of the band's biggest hits, "Nuestro Amor." A Spanish-language tune that sat atop the Mexican charts for over a month, it's an old-fashioned salute to sweet love.
No Pares
Considered to be one of Mexico's brightest young singing and acting talents, red-haired Dulce Maria is a force to be reckoned with. On "No Pares," she loans her impressive lead vocals to this beautiful Spanish track. "Don't stop looking for your dreams," she sings. And we believe her, for Dulce knows how to make you believe in the power of a song.
Tu Amor
Already a smash hit on radio stations across America, teen heartthrob Christian takes center stage to sing RBD's hot new English song, "Tu Amor." Romantic and affecting, it's the hit that pundits predict will bring the band crossover mega-success.
THE INTERVIEW
On Acting vs. Singing:
Dulce recently picked up a Best Actress award at the Soap Awards. We asked the petite star how it feels to be rewarded for her acting so early on in her career. "I never expected it," she says with her signature modesty. "I had never wanted it because I never really knew how it worked. It was the first award that I've won alone. And I was really glad because everyone else was there."
On Plans for the Future:
With a hot new album, and plans for the small and big screen on the horizon, international recognition is just around the corner. We asked RBD what their next big project is and discovered some exciting news. "Right now we're working on a sitcom, a series about the group - not like the characters on the soap opera, but about the group, RBD. Characters are going to be very, very much like ourselves."
POST-SCRIPT:
RB World Domination!
Today, we were blown away. We witnessed one of Latin America's most successful musical groups give a stellar performance - in the flesh. Now, the band is ready to take on America. With their camera-ready good looks, energetic singing talent and natural chemistry, we expect RBD to easily rise to the occasion. Check out the show - it's a memorable one. See ya next time.
