About The Artist

The Set List

Shinedown’s fourth studio record arrives with some heavy anticipation. The band’s last album (2008’s ‘The Sound Of Madness’) debuted at the top of the charts, and scored the Florida rockers six number one hit singles. After giving the band their highest album debut yet, ‘Amaryllis’ looks set to continue that trend. Check out our set with Shinedown - and go pick up a copy of ‘Amaryllis’ online and in Walmart stores nationwide.

-The Crew at Walmart Soundcheck

On Destiny:
Brent: “The whole record is about destiny and that’s why we chose to name the record ‘Amaryllis.’ It’s a flower that grows in the desert, usually in parts of South Africa. At the time of the year that it grows it’s extremely hot and there’s no real reason as to how it blooms because there’s not a lot of vegetation around it. That’s really the symbolism to the album and what it means. It’s about growing everyday as a person. That’s what we want everybody to take from this record. It’s about rising above and about showing who you are to the world. Let your amaryllis bloom!”

On Acting Fearless:
Brent: “We’re quite fearless when it comes to making records. We don’t ever believe in a top because we’re always trying to outdo what we’ve already done. We’re never really satisfied. I can guarantee you we never will be.”

On Confronting Their Bully:
Brent: “It’s about everyone that’s ever had a confrontation with someone. It’s not a song that’s condoning violence. What it’s condoning is survival. Nobody has the right to come up to anyone and physically or mentally hit you or attack you. You can’t bow down. Stand up for yourself. That’s part of life.”

On Interacting With The Fans:
Barry: “It’s not like the good old days when the music was dangerous and you didn’t know anything about the artist. Those days are gone. You have to embrace that your whole life is out there for the fans. And you give it your whole life. As much as you possibly can.”Shinedown’s fourth studio record arrives with some heavy anticipation. Bully
The lead single from ‘Amaryllis’ is a powerful call to action about the consequences of bullying. Explains Brent: “It’s about everyone that’s ever had a confrontation with someone. It’s not a song that’s condoning violence. What it’s condoning is survival.”

Unity
Brent: “As you walk through your street, as you go to your job, [think about] all the people that you meet along the way. In all reality they’re your brother and your sister. [‘Unity’] is about building each other up instead of tearing each other down.”

Amaryllis
Brent: “The whole record is about destiny, and that’s why we chose to call the record ‘Amaryllis.’ It’s about rising above and about showing who you are to the world, and about showing your true colors to the world.”

Enemies
Lead singer Brent Smith says that the idea for ‘Amaryllis’ was to take listeners on a rollercoaster ride. New track ‘Enemies’ finds Shinedown exploring the rise and fall of friendship and power. Sings Brent: “You got the world on its knees / You’re taking all that you please / You want more.”

Sound Of Madness
The title track to the band’s third album was released as the third single and topped the Mainstream Rock chart. A fan favorite, ‘Sound Of Madness’ also finds Shinedown echoing some of the themes explored in ‘Bully.’ Asks Brent: “When you gonna wake up? When you gonna wake up and fight?”

Second Chance
Shinedown closes their Walmart Soundcheck song with one of the band’s most personal tunes. Brent Smith has said in interviews that ‘Second Chance’ is a song he wrote to bid farewell to his parents. Sings Brent: “Tell my mother, tell my father / I’ve done the best I can / To make them realize / This is my life.”
