Soundcheck checks in to Conway Recording Studios in L.A. for a day of sun, song and strings with The Fray. A guest string quartet (featuring Beck’s dad David Campbell) accompanies the Denver boys on the hit ‘How To Save A Life’ and their brand new single, ‘You Found Me.’ Check out the set and go pick up a copy of the new album online and in Walmart stores nationwide.

On Fighting For Their Name:
Isaac: "The band’s name is not necessarily known... We came up with something after [we formed].”
Ben: "Which is exactly the same thing that Webster came up with...”
Isaac: "Yes. Webster dictionary says it’s like a fight or something.”
Ben: "It just sounded cool!"
Isaac: “And the website wasn’t taken.”
On Jamming With Beck’s Dad:
Joe: “This is the first time we’ve played with a quartet. One of the songs we’re playing (‘Never Say Never’) has a beautiful string arrangement by this guy named David Campbell, Beck’s dad. He’s an amazing arranger and musician. He’s coming out today. It should be good!”
On Not Messing With A Good Thing:
Dave: “We worked with the same producer as the last album. There was obviously a lot of chemistry in those relationships as well as the fact that we were trying to push ourselves a little bit more on this album. To have a backbone of comfort with people that we knew and not new faces everywhere... We thought it would create a better environment to start new things, as well as keeping ourselves grounded.”
Isaac: “Well said, man! That was really good.”
Dave: “You’re welcome.”

Did You Know?
• The Fray are: Isaac Slade, Joe King, Ben Wysocki and Dave Welsh.
• They hail from Denver, Colorado. Former school buddies Isaac Slade and Joe King began the band in 2002. Initially, Caleb Slade (Isaac’s brother) played drums for the band but was eventually replaced by Ben Wysocki.
• They’re often compared to Coldplay! Lead singer Isaac Slade says that’s mostly because he and Chris Martin are both “tall, blonde, piano players.”
• They’re greenies! The eco-friendly rockers are known for spreading the word about environmental issues and even travel in a carbon-neutral tour bus!
• They’ve teamed up once again with producers Aaron Johnson and Mike Flynn for their self-titled sophomore disc. The first single, ‘You Found Me’ is already climbing up the charts.

You Found Me
The first single from the band’s self-titled new album is a melancholy affair that Isaac has said is about life’s little disappointments. While the lyrics may suggest a sad story, the front man’s piano solo soars to giddy heights. Sings Isaac: “You found me lying on the floor... surrounded. Why’d you have to wait? Where were you? Just a little late...”
Enough For Now
A string quartet complements the band on this stunning track from the new record. Guitarist Joe King contributes back-up vocals to ‘Enough For Now,’ a wistful tune about regrets and recriminations: Sings Isaac: “It’s enough for now. I would have never left you broken...”
Never Say Never
Isaac learned to play piano at age 11 and the instrument dominates most of the band’s recordings, including this beautiful new track. ‘Never Say Never’ is a haunting tune about second chances and the definitive set highlight. Sings Isaac: “You can never say never. Don’t let me go.”
How To Save A Life
‘How To Save A Life’ was written by Isaac and Joe King about Isaac’s experience at a camp for troubled teens. Though there are numerous interpretations of the tune, the song is ultimately a plea for compassion. Closing their Soundcheck set with their signature tune, The Fray complete a flawless performance.
