About The Artist

The Set List

It’s about the yin and the yang, the give and take. The push and pull of relationships.

That’s lead singer Danny O’Donoghue speaking to Soundcheck about The Script’s socially-conscious new record, ‘Science & Faith.’ The Dubliners traveled back to their Irish roots for their sophomore record, and they call the effort “a labor of love.” We’re sharing that love - check out our set with The Script - and go pick up a copy of ‘Science & Faith’ online and in Walmart stores nationwide.

-The Crew at Walmart Soundcheck

On Science & Faith:
Danny: “‘Science & Faith’ has been a labor of love. It’s about the yin and the yang, the give and take. The push and pull of relationships.”

On The Irish Mentality:
Danny: “The recession is no longer a ticker tape on the news. It’s there. People are living it. We wanted to write a song that represented the Irish mentality. We may be down but you can’t count us out. It’s going back to basics. What does a couple have when they have nothing left? They have each other.”

On Making The Record:
Mark: “An album is a snapshot of a moment in time. It was loads of fun; it was great. We just got to leave all the opinions outside. We went in and made a record that we were proud of. We’re our own worst enemies when we judge ourselves.”

On Playing Live:
Glen: “When people come to our shows they really let their hair down. They come out for a good time. They’re not afraid to really get into the spirit and the atmosphere of the show!”

Did You Know?

• The Script is: Danny O’Donoghue (lead vocals, keyboards), Mark Sheehan (guitar), and drummer Glen Power.

• They’re Irish. The band’s music often chronicles their native Dublin. Explains Danny: “What’s going on in Ireland is a microcosm for the rest of the world.”

• They’re an overnight success. The Script’s 2008 self-titled debut album went to number one in the UK and Ireland, and sold 2 million copies worldwide. Explains Danny: “We’ve gone from playing small clubs to performing in theatres, at festivals and in stadiums. It’s a little bit shocking to us as a new band, playing to these mass audiences!”

• One of their biggest fans is a Beatle. Sir Paul McCartney personally asked the band to support him on a recent North American tour. Mark explains: “He said the reason he picked us was our message is very humble and honest. We’re not preaching. We invite people into our world, and our experiences, and to relate to us.”

• ‘Science & Faith’ is in stores now! Pick up a copy of the record online and in Walmart stores nationwide.
For The First Time
The first single from the band’s new album, ‘Science & Faith’ is a questioning track about the effects of the worldwide recession. Explains Danny: “We had a very successful two years. When we got home to Ireland, we realized that the recession is no longer a ticker tape on the news. It’s there. People are living it. Our friends, our family, people who are really close to us. You can’t count us out. We may be down, but you can’t count us down. We’ll pick ourselves back up.”

Breakeven
The Script dedicates their first song to anyone suffering from a broken heart. ‘Breakeven,’ from the band’s self-titled debut, cleverly chronicles the different perspectives of a breakup. Sings Danny: “Her best days will be some of my worst / She finally met a man that’s gonna put her first...”

The Man Who Can’t Be Moved
As he launches into ‘The Man Who Can’t Be Moved’ (from the band’s self-titled debut), lead singer Danny O’Donoghue cuts a charismatic figure in an ‘80s-inspired jacket and matching fingerless gloves. Sings the Dublin-born singer in this defiant anthem to love: “I’m not broke, I’m just a brokenhearted man / How can I move on when I’ve been in love with you?”

Nothing
The Script’s next song is the second single from ‘Science & Fear.’ ‘Nothing’ is a standout from the new album, a working man’s tale about surviving a bad break-up. It’s also a metaphor for the heart - and the economy. Sings Danny: “As they take me to my local down the street / I’m smiling but I’m dying trying not to drag my feet.”

You Won’t Feel A Thing
The Script closes their Soundcheck set with the opening track to their new record, ‘Science & Faith.’ ‘You Won’t Feel A Thing’ is a classic pop tune with a tip of the hat to their Irish brothers, U2. Sings Danny: “I’ve been beat up and robbed / I’ve been left for dead for the way I look / For the things I said...”
