On Retiring:
“I’m a little nervous - I have to be honest - because it’s been awhile since I’ve been singing. I just wanted to make an album that I felt great about. I tried to pull a Jay-Z and said "I’m gonna retire!" He couldn’t do it either. It’s in my DNA; I have to come out and perform!”
On Studio Nerves:
“It was a lot of pressure going back into the studio and recording. It’s been awhile for me; I’m very fortunate that I found my particular niche on this album.”
On The Road:
“I am so excited about being out again and touring. It’s my favorite part. [That's] my adrenaline rush when I have that microphone in my hand... It’s the greatest feeling ever. I’m so looking forward to kicking off a tour very soon!"
On Believing In Yourself:
“The moment for me that stands out more than anything was when I won my first award, which was a Grammy. I’d always dreamed of being a singer... but I'd never dreamed of holding the award in my hand and actually having it. It was the best feeling ever; it was more than a dream – it was like a movie! I knew that moment when I held it in my hand that my life would change forever. I always remember that moment. You have to believe in yourself. The moment you stop believing in yourself those dreams won’t be obtained.”
On Vegas:
“It was absolutely wonderful. Having done Broadway in the past, doing Vegas was very natural for me. Hard discipline though – I can’t deny that! It’s five shows a week and just you on stage! Vegas is hot and it’s sexy. It's like an adult’s Disneyland!”

Yesterday
The first single from ‘Pulse’ is a piano-driven ballad that sounds like a Braxton classic. Already a hit on the charts, ‘Yesterday’ also teams Toni up with singer Trey Songz. Toni explains the experience: “He’s incredible. We’re label mates. A lot of people think he sounds like me. It was great!”
Breathe Again
Toni gives a startling jazz-influenced rendition of her 1993 hit ‘Breathe Again.’ Written by Babyface, ‘Breathe Again’ established Toni as one of R&B music’s greatest balladeers. Cautions Toni: “Please understand, if love ends, then I promise you… I promise you that I shall never breathe again.”
If I Have To Wait
New tune ‘If I Have To Wait’ is a buzzed-about highlight from ‘Pulse.’ Explains Toni: “I love this song! I love country music, and this is country music meets R&B. It has a nice little twang to it with a nice little growl as well. It’s incredible… and it’s romantic! It’s my favorite… I can’t wait for everyone to hear it!”
Make My Heart
Segueing from a country-meets-R&B tune to a dance floor number, Toni shows us her versatility as a contemporary pop artist. It’s time to move, and ‘Make My Heart’ is a slinky number destined for the clubs. Sings Toni: “You pull me close. Can you feel my pulse? My heart is beating faster!"
Un-Break My Heart
Toni closes her set with a subtle rendition of an iconic song. Written by Diane Warren, ‘Un-Break My Heart’ is given new meaning as Toni sings quietly alongside an acoustic guitar. Sings Toni: “The nights are so unkind. Bring back those nights when I held you beside me…”
