On His New Album:
“I don't feel like my music has to relate to anybody in particular, I think it needs to relate to me. Then you hope you hit the people who feel it the most. It has to be from the heart and if it’s not then I don’t think you should be doing it.”
On His Country Influence:
“I grew up in a gas station and my dad was a mechanic; he worked nonstop. I learned a lot in that gas station and country was on the radio in that garage. It’s just where I ended up I guess; it’s something that makes me feel good.”
On Writing With Friends:
“I didn’t write with anybody I didn’t like. In fact, it was just a few guys who I know and love. They are a lot like me. Everyone was on the same page which made it that much more special.”
“Lately I’ve been playing the new record and the reaction from our fans has been nothing less than awesome. People just dig it. It’s something different and the reaction has been great.”
On His Producer:
“Keith Segal friend produced the album, we’ve been friends for years and so it made sense to bring him on board—I didn't know anybody who knew as much as he did. It was probably the best decision I ever made.”
• Uncle Kracker’s real name is Matthew Shafer.
• Although Krackers’ first album was more of a rap record, he’s progressed further into country-rock with each album. ‘Midnight Special’ is a return to some of his country influences as a kid.
• The name of the album came out of a late night listening to early demos with a friend. His friend joked that one of the songs sounded like a “midnight special”— and it stuck!

Kracker says the single is about “Taking it a little lighter (even when bad things happen); everything seems a little more fun if you make it that way.” He sings, “Throw some cheep sun glasses on them blood shot eyes/ Nobody's sad on a Saturday night.
“‘Blue Skies’ is one of my favorite songs on the record. I think the song’s perfect from front to back and I don’t think I’ve never felt that way about anything I’ve ever done.”
This standout single from ‘Midnight Special,’ resonates with the fans. He sings, “Wherever you are, I hope that you’re laughing / Whoever you’re with I hope you’re laughing/ Whoever you’re with I hope that you’re having the time of your life / I’ll never be sad as long as you’re happy.”
From his 2009 album ‘Happy Hour’, ‘Smile’ was a single that topped Billboard charts. “You make me smile like the sun/ Fall outta bed/ Sing like a bird/ Dizzy in my head/ Spin like a record/ Crazy on a Sunday night.”
Kracker talks about his hit single from debut album in 2000 ‘Double Wide’: Some people might think playing ‘Follow Me’ night after night would get old, but it doesn’t for me. I enjoy every second of playing it.”
