The Set List
We were all very excited here at Soundcheck. After all, it was our first in-studio performance, so once these guys began playing, we knew we had picked a great band to kick off the new series.
The guys from Yellowcard are real troopers. Coming in from a grueling 14-hour bus ride, and with no break, they headed right over to the studio, eager to get started.
An amazing all-acoustic set followed that saw the band unveil both new songs and new players (a cello and violin were added). Highlights of the set included a debut of Yellowcard's new hit single, "Lights and Sounds," as well as an incredible acoustic version of their classic "Ocean Avenue."
After the set, Ryan (lead vocals, guitar) and Sean (violin, backing vocals) sat down with us to talk about what life has been like lately for the band. It's important to remember that, in the span of just two years, Yellowcard has gone from passing out demos on the streets of LA to winning MTV Video Music Awards. Ryan summed it best when he said, "Our life has spiraled into this sort of weird, surreal dreamland that we never imagined we'd be a part of ... on the new record, we really captured all of these things we've been through ..."
It was that dynamic that made the day really interesting. Here you've got a young band that is sitting on the edge of where they came from, yet staring into the face of superstardom beyond what they ever dreamed. It's the kind of change and the kind of struggle that produces great material, and that's what they've done. Yellowcard has delivered a sophomore album of new songs that brings to life the fantastic journey they've been experiencing.
Well, that's a wrap on show number one! Click around and enjoy - We look forward to seeing you backstage right here at Soundcheck.
